SSE provisionally secures agreements in GB 2029/30 capacity auction

SSE has provisionally1 secured agreements for 3,581MW of de-rated2 electricity generation capacity for the delivery year, which runs from 1 October 2029 to 30 September 2030.

The provisional results of the latest T-4 capacity auction in Great Britain were published on Tuesday, 10 March, with 40,108MW in agreements awarded to capacity market units at an auction clearing price of £27.10/kW.

SSE Renewables secured provisional agreements for 935MW of de-rated hydro, onshore wind and solar capacity.

SSE Thermal secured a provisional agreement for 686MW of de-rated electricity generation capacity for Keadby 1 Power Station, located in North Lincolnshire.

Joint venture assets in which SSE Thermal owns a 50% share also secured agreements:

-       835MW for Marchwood Power Station3

-       1,120MW for Seabank Power Station

-       998MW for Saltend Power Station

-       130MW for Indian Queens Power Station

SSE did not secure agreements for its Peterhead, Medway, Burghfield and Chickerell Power Stations. These results will not impact operations at the stations, which have capacity agreements in place until September 2029, and will have opportunities to secure further capacity agreements in future auctions.

SSE already holds a 15-year agreement for Keadby 2, which commenced in October 2023.

The provisional results remain subject to confirmation by the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ).
