SSEN Transmission will begin early preparatory activities associated with its Lewis Hub project from this week.

Stornoway’s Caledonian Hotel is set to be brought back into use for the first time in more than a decade, thanks to SSEN Transmission’s Lewis Hub project.

SSE will continue to play a leading role in community investment across Scotland in 2026, building on a landmark moment in 2025 when the company marked over £80 million distributed to Scottish communities through renewable energy funds over the last two decades.

SSEN Transmission has published commitments which detail the economic and other legacy benefits for communities in the region from its investment to upgrade the electricity grid.

Flexible generation still matters. SSE operates some of the UK and Ireland’s most efficient gas‑fired power stations. These stations deliver dependable electricity while driving long‑term investment through skilled jobs, local supply chains and community support.

SSEN Transmission has awarded one of the leading global cable manufacturers, NKT, major contracts to manufacture and install the 525kV high-voltage direct current (HVDC) cables for two key subsea cable links.
