The National Wealth Fund has announced an £800 million financial guarantee to support SSEN Transmission's delivery of four major electricity grid upgrade projects in northern Scotland.

Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) Distribution has completed an £8.7m network upgrade which is now benefitting tens of thousands of customers who live and work in the Fleet and Aldershot areas of east Hampshire.

SSEN Transmission has today [Wednesday 17 December] agreed its biggest housing deal so far, with housebuilder the Springfield Group, marking a significant step forward in its commitment to contribute to the delivery of 1,000 new homes across the north of Scotland, in support of plans to build the new electricity transmission infrastructure that is needed to deliver on Scotland and the UK’s energy security and clean power goals.

Planning consent has been granted for the Cambushinnie 400kV substation in Perthshire – a key element of SSEN Transmission’s proposed Beauly to Denny overhead line (OHL) upgrade.

SSEN Transmission notes the publication of Ofgem’s Final Determination for the RIIO-T3 price control period, which comes at a critical time for securing clean, affordable power for families and businesses across the country.

Planning consent has been granted for the Banniskirk Hub – a major clean energy project that will see the construction of a new 400kV substation and high voltage direct current (HVDC) converter station in the Spittal area.
