Targeting net zero
The energy sector plays a vital role in achieving the goal set by the Paris Agreement to limit the increase of the global temperature to 1.5°C.
At SSE, our ambition is to achieve net zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions across scope 1 and scope 2 emissions by 2040 (subject to security of supply) and for remaining scope 3 emissions by 2050 at the latest.
SSE's science-based carbon targets
Our long-term net zero ambitions are supported by a series of four near-term targets verified by the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi). These are aligned with the Paris Agreement and the power sector’s 1.5°C pathway.

For more information on what is included in our scope 1, 2 and 3 emission, see our Sustainability Report.
SSE's Net Zero Transition Plan

Our Net Zero Transition Plan sets out 18 tangible actions required to remove greenhouse gas emissions from our electricity generation, operations, and value chain by 2050 at the latest.
Progress against the plan is outlined in our Net Zero Transition Report, which can be read alongside the climate-related disclosures in the Sustainability Report and the Annual Report.
SSE's climate change adaptation and resilience
With the frequency of extreme weather events and the unpredictability of weather patterns increasing, it is more important than ever that we ensure our operations and networks are both prepared and resilient to a climate changed world.
We support national climate adaptation by contributing to industry reports and frameworks, while developing business-specific resilience plans to address climate risks and strengthen infrastructure across our businesses. Read more on our work to support national climate adaptation here.
We are committed to transparent climate-related disclosures, helping stakeholders assess our management of climate-related opportunities and risks. You can find SSE’s TCFD-aligned disclosures here.
