Accessible and inclusive workplace

At SSE, we want every colleague to have the workplace, tools and support they need to perform at their best. We recognise that people have different needs, experiences and ways of working, and we continue to identify and reduce barriers across our workplaces, technology, safety processes and employee support.

Our approach includes workplace adjustments, accessible technology and communications, inclusive workplace design, flexible ways of working and practical support for colleagues with disabilities, neurodivergence, chronic health conditions, caring responsibilities and other individual circumstances.

1. Workplace adjustments and individual support

Support is not one-size-fits-all. Colleagues can discuss the support or workplace adjustments they need with their manager and relevant specialist teams, helping identify practical solutions that enable them to work, learn and develop effectively. Support may relate to equipment, assistive technology, communication methods, working arrangements, the physical workplace or how work is organised.

-

2. Accessible technology and communications

We continue to improve the accessibility of workplace technology, systems and communications, recognising that accessible design benefits everyone.

-

3. Inclusive workplaces and facilities

Creating inclusive workplaces goes beyond physical access. We continue to develop workplaces that respond to a broad range of cultural, religious, disability, health and family-related needs. Facilities vary according to location and operational requirements.

-

4. Inclusive safety

Safety should work for everyone. We continue to review our safety systems, equipment and learning to ensure they are as accessible and inclusive as possible, using colleague feedback and lived experience to identify and remove barriers.

-

Guidance, wellbeing and peer support

Alongside practical workplace support, colleagues have access to guidance, resources and peer networks that help create an inclusive working environment.

-

Continuous improvement

Accessibility and inclusion are an ongoing journey.

We continue to improve our workplaces, technology, policies and support by listening to colleagues, reviewing workforce insight, learning from external best practice and involving people with lived experience in the design of future improvements.
